Foggia, the first edition of ‘sComunica’ was good

The first edition of ‘sComunica’, the inclusive sCommunity event held last Saturday, 13 April, in Foggia, was a success. A large and heterogeneous audience accepted the invitation to listen and discuss inclusive communication, dispelling myths and opening up new perspectives.

The day brought a great result, thanks to valuable local and national speakers who stimulated interesting conversations and reflections during the panels, workshops and talks. sComunica provided a precious opportunity to reflect on the use of a more attentive and aware language which, certainly, is central to overcoming stereotypes linked to gender, the LGBTQI+ world and southernism.

It emerged that responsibility in communication is truly central, especially given the times and scenarios we live in, to tell increasingly authentic stories and shift attention to a world in which everyone can feel represented. It all starts from communication and words which have great power: valuing diversity and contributing to building a more equitable and respectful society, where every voice, every identity and every gender can express themselves freely.

It is increasingly necessary to work on people, on the way each of us sees others and ourselves, going beyond stereotypes and enhancing uniqueness. To do this we need to put human capital at the centre, talk about human value in training and in the world of work, to implement change and to structure social networks.

We need to work more and more on the narrative of identity both for people and for territories and therefore also for the South, which is not just a film set or a setting where stories of the world can be narrated, but is a true heritage to be identify and promote. ‘sComunica’ demonstrates that we must never stop communicating, sharing and discussing to move towards a future in which inclusive communication is the norm, not the exception.

“We are really satisfied because when working on a first edition there are always a thousand doubts, but we believe we have achieved the set objectives”declared the organizers of the event, who added: “We believe that perhaps the most important thing was to collect the feedback from many guests and participants who asked us to stay in touch, to start networks, to carry out projects together. And that’s exactly what we wanted, that is, to offer a stimulus so that people knew who to connect with to look to the future together.”
A future that will certainly see other editions of the event, because the first edition of sComunica represents only the beginning of an ambitious and stimulating journey.

Conceived, created and produced by We Hate Pink, Red Hot, ArciGay Le Bigotte and Assunta di Matteo Equality Councilor of the province of Foggia, sComunica is a new format that combines professionalism, life experiences and stories of discrimination, all in a context complex territorial.
