Simona Serra, the 21-year-old from Caserta who, last Sunday evening in Pozzuoli, in the Neapolitan area, was hit while leaving a pizzeria in via Campi Flegrei, has died in hospital.

According to an initial reconstruction, the girl, who arrived on site in the company of some friends, was crossing the road when she was hit by a Volkswagen Polo driven by a 19-year-old from Pozzuoli. She was rescued by the 118 health workers and was transported by ambulance to the “Santa Maria delle Grazie” hospital in the Phlegraean city in very serious conditions. After about 24 hours she died.

The agents of the local police of Pozzuoli are investigating the case and, in the meantime, they have reported the driver of the car to be free, subjecting him to tests to detect the presence of alcohol and drugs at the time of the accident which, however, so far have given negative results. It is therefore conceivable that, on the part of the 19 year old, there was a distraction or driving at high speed, in any case fatal for the girl.

Graduated from Liceo Manzoni in Caserta, Simona had been attending the Faculty of Economics at the Federico II University of Naples for about two years. In the meantime, the judicial authority has ordered an autopsy on her body to better clarify the causes of her death.
