The numbers of wine in Piedmont

On the occasion of the event, Denis Pantini, head of Nomisma Wine Monitor, presented research carried out in collaboration with Unicredit and Veronafiere, which highlights the numbers of wine in Piedmont. The region maintains its position as constant sixth Italian vineyard by extension, with 45,725 hectares, 88% of which are dedicated to PDOs. The organic cultivated area is growing, with 4200 hectares in 2022 and an increase of 305% since 2012. Piedmont ranks second in terms of wine export value, with a growth of 19% in five years and a turnover of 1 billion and 200 million euros in 2023. An interesting fact concerns the perception of the Italian consumer: Piedmont emerges as the region with the highest quality wines, in particular for reds.

Synergy between the Piedmontese wine-growing realities

The Councilor for Agriculture and Food of the Piedmont Region Mark Protopope underlined the importance of the synergy between the various realities of the Piedmontese wine world. “For the 2024 edition we wanted to create maximum synergy between the various realities of the Piedmontese wine world and with Piemonte Land of Wine the Piedmont Area welcomes over 100 associated wine companies under a single umbrella, to give more visibility to producers and territories. Piedmont with its excellent wines is a point of reference on international markets, strong for the quality and historicity of its production and also for an offer of innovative products”.

Francesco Monchiero, wine producer and president of Piemonte Land of Wine, declared: “For Piedmont, Vinitaly 2024 will be characterized by an absolute novelty. For the first time, in fact, according to the will of the producers associated with Piemonte Land and absolutely supported by the Piedmont Region, Piedmontese wine companies will present themselves in a single exhibition area. It is a strong signal of unity that promotes Piedmont wine in its entirety and aims to be a tool to face the challenges that current events impose. Climate changes and the repercussions on crops, economic and geopolitical crises with tensions in various areas of the world cannot be ignored and must be addressed with concrete sense towards common goals. Proceeding in no particular order would be a mistake. Vinitaly 2024 will also serve to give the sign of a real union of Piedmontese wine, in terms of intentions and actions”.

During the event, the program of promotional meetings dedicated to the DOC and DOCG wines and spirits of Piedmont and the production territories will also be presented. These meetings will take place in the exhibition spaces of the Piedmont Area.

The program of promotional meetings dedicated to the DOC and DOCG wines and spirits of Piedmont and the production territories which will take place in the meeting space located in the center of the Piedmont area was also presented. The “vine of the year 2024” will also be announced on Sunday, nominated by the Piedmont Region as part of an initiative that for some years has aimed at valorising and explaining the native vines of Piedmont to the general public.

Outside Pavilion 10 you can access the Piemonte restaurant, unique among the regions participating in the fair, expanded this year and with greater availability of seats, managed by Michelin-starred Piedmontese chefs Maurilio Garola and Massimo Camia, who will offer a menu based on quality local products paired with Piedmontese wines.
