It took just a few hours for the men from the Barletta police station to trace the perpetrator of the robbery committed on March 19th against a tobacconist in Corso Garibaldi. This is a 33-year-old already known to the police for similar crimes. At the time of his arrest he was still wearing the neck warmer with which he had tried to make his face unrecognizable during the execution of the attack. According to what was reconstructed by the investigations coordinated by the Trani Prosecutor’s Office, the man had entered the tobacconist’s shop trying to force a door located next to the counter, damaging it with a few hammer blows. Not succeeding in his aim, the 33-year-old jumped to the back counter and ordered the owner of the shop to give him the proceeds. The tobacconist resisted and received a hammer blow to the forehead during the scuffle, luckily sustaining minor injuries. The robber took possession of the money in the cash register and then tried to escape on his bicycle through the streets of the historic centre, but was quickly identified and tracked down by the police. After the arrest the man was transferred to the Trani prison: he will have to answer for robbery and personal injury.
