“Kissing Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic was a real nightmare, a disastrous mess”: Kate Winslet reveals a behind-the-scenes story from the set of the cult film

The actress told some funny anecdotes that happened on the set of the famous 1997 film

The blockbuster “Titanic“was not just a cult film from 1997, a world-grossing film, winner of 11 Oscar Awardsand which made entire generations dream thanks, also, to the award-winning song on the soundtrack “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion. “Titanic” was the manifesto of entire generations thanks to the desperate love between Jack and Rosethe two very much in love protagonists who will then be separated by tragic fate.

Yet everything happened on the set of that film and Kate Winslet herself tells it: “It wasn’t all rosy with Leo DiCaprio because we kept kissing, I was wearing a lot of makeup and I had to check the makeup, for both of us, – said the actress in an interview with Vanity Fair America – between takes, and it ended up looking like I sucked on a caramel candy bar after every take, because her makeup came off on me. It was a nightmare. Leo couldn’t stop laughingand we had to reshoot this scene about four times because James Cameron wanted a very specific light, of course, and the sunsets kept moving us. A disastrous mess (laughs, ed.)”.

And finally: “I’m very proud, because I feel like it’s a film that keeps on giving. Whole other generations of people are discovering the film or seeing it for the first time and there is something extraordinary about that.”
