laparoscopic removal of the ovaries, a «resolved and minimally invasive operation». What we know

A decisive and minimally invasive operation. Vito Trojanopresident of the Italian Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics (Sigo), describes to AdnKronos Salute the operation she underwent Antonella Clerici for the removal of ovaries: «It’s simple, minimally invasive because it’s done directly laparoscopic (with very small incisions, ed.), of a fairly short duration and without any aesthetic or functional problems in menopause. The removal of the two ovaries, in the presence of a cyst that presents anomalies, is the right indication according to the guidelines. But the definitive diagnosis can only be given by histological examination.”

Antonella Clerici, the details of the operation

The ovarian cysts they are a fairly common problem, even in post menopause and, Trojano further explains, «they can be of various nature: benign; be the beginning of an oncological or borderline problem between a benign and a malignant pathology.” If a cyst, already known – as it seems in the case of the presenter – “presents anomalous variations, it is removed and, in the case of a patient in menopause, prevention requires that both ovaries be removed because it makes no sense to leave an ovary that is stopped’ and which can only, over time, produce a subsequent problem and should, for this reason, be checked periodically”.

And if, as it seems, only the ovaries were removed “it is most likely a benign pathology which, being evolving, was rightly removed surgically. The urgency, reported by the presenter, could be linked to an inflammatory event or to changes within the cyst of a proliferative type”, declared Trojano, wishing Antonella Clerici a speedy recovery.

«Thank you Antonella Clerici, it’s essential to talk about prevention»

According to President Sigo, the presenter «was very good and deserves compliments because a well-known person who talks about his pathology, diagnosed thanks to prevention, helps provide good information on the possibility of prevention, which must never be overlooked».

Fortunately, “prevention can solve problems that would become much more complicated over time. It is always important, at any age, to be attentive to checks.” And “the stories of characters from the entertainment industry, followed and appreciated by many people, can really help”, concludes Trojano.
