«Even the shyest flower can bloom»: one of the slogans most loved by fans which precedes the broadcast of the third and highly anticipated season of Bridgerton. And the flower that blooms is Penelope (the Irish actress Nicola Coughlan) who in the two previous editions dedicated herself to writing – covered by a second identity, that of Lady Whistledown who makes the other English aristocracy tremble by revealing loves and secrets – and to his friendship with Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton), one of the eight brothers of the famous family that gives the series its title. A friendship that in her heart she knew was love, unrequited. But in these eight episodes (the first 4 airing on Netflix from May 16th, the other 4 from June 13th) passion will explode between Penelope and Colin. In recent months there has been a lot of talk on social media about the rather hot scenes between the two protagonists. Who yesterday, present in Milan, were able to explain what happened on the set.
The sex scenes «were beautiful, because everyone worked to create a real, honest and sexy scene», Luke-Colin said. «It was liberating, I couldn’t have shot it without him. We trust each other a lot. Let’s remember that Penelope is a virgin and it was an intense scene from this point of view”, revealed Nicola. Which he adds: «It was fundamental that we had known each other for years and that we were friends».
As already happened for the Italian series Supersexabout the life of Rocco Siffredi, Netflix also made an “intimacy coordinator” available to the actors, a professional who helps actors feel at ease while filming intimate scenes. «He helped us and made us feel safe, I think he is an important figure. We were able to express what made us uncomfortable”, concluded the protagonist.
So two years after the second season, in addition to this passion, we will see the evolution of many other much loved characters of this series based on Julia Quinn’s bestsellers and set in the rich, prurient, high-class world of London aristocracy and society in the early 19th century. A series – between glittering balls in Mayfair and splendid country houses – which «celebrates love – explained the actress – And in our specific case it is the revenge of the love of those who say “we are just friends”. What is certain is that the first two seasons of Bridgerton they have arrived all over the world conquering the very young and not so young. «I think audiences love Bridgerton because it celebrates romance and love. Fans also watch it several times because it makes you happy”, Nicola-Penelope said again. «We felt the responsibility for this and we worked hard for it since we received the script, immersing ourselves totally in the story. But we don’t know what direction the series will take.”
