Met Gala 2024: the red carpet live from the Metropolitan Museum in New York. Discover all the star’s looks live

New York’s big night of fashion has finally arrived. The 2024 Met Gala has officially kicked off to celebrate the Costume Institute’s new exhibition Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion (May 10 – September 2), an unprecedented exploration of how technology can bring historic archive items to life that are now too fragile to wear, while offering the public the opportunity to discover these “sleeping beauties” through evocative experiences multisensory.

The dress code of the Met Gala 2024: “The Garden of Time”

According to tradition, the event begins with the ritual parade of stars on the red carpet which, for the occasion, covers the steps of the Metropolitan Museum. The 2024 Met Gala dress code is “The Garden of Time”, a reference to the short story of the same name written by JG Ballard in 1962 (The garden of time in the Italian edition), which tells the vaguely dystopian story of a count and a countess who live in the splendid isolation of their wonderful garden, where every evening they have to cut a magical flower, called the “flower of time”, to reset the ‘days advance.

The presenters of the Met Gala 2024

As has been the case since 1995, the Met Gala is chaired by the global director of Vogue Anna Wintour, who for this edition is joined by Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth and Bad Bunny. Zendaya, in particular, has not attended the Met Gala since 2019, when she showed up on the red carpet with a Cinderella-style look, a fairy-tale Tommy Hilfiger evening dress that her stylist and companion, Law Roach, illuminated with a touch of a magic wand. Needless to say, all eyes will be on her outfit this evening.

The best looks of the Met Gala 2023

The 2023 edition of the Met Gala had as its theme the work of Karl Lagerfeld, both for the various fashion houses that, over the years, have made use of his extraordinary talent, and for his eponymous brand. Starting from the object of the Costume Institute exhibition, Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, the guests reread in a personal way the stylistic codes of the great designer, who passed away in 2019, sometimes reinterpreting his most iconic models. Here then is Rihanna with a cape dress by Valentino that referenced the Chanel bride, Kim Kardashian studded with pearls courtesy of Schiaparelli (a reference to Chanel’s iconic pearls), or, again, Olivia Wilde with the “violin dress” by Chloé inspired by Lagerfeld’s spring summer 1983 collection. Without forgetting the tributes from Doja Cat, Jared Leto and Lil Nas X to Lagerfeld’s beloved cat, Choupette.
