The May 5th episode of Sunday In opened with a memory of Toto Cutugno with Niko Cutugnoson of the famous singer-songwriter who passed away on August 22, 2023. Mara Venier thus wanted to celebrate the singer, who died at the age of 80 from prostate cancer.
Niko, born from an extramarital relationship that Toto had with a woman called Cristina, said that “he was a present but also very youthful father. He wanted me to have educational rules but he was also very joking”.

Of course the singer “has always been a bit first woman and he had this mixture of jealousy that he himself couldn’t explain”, continues his son. “At 27 I started playing the guitar for theatres, it was a common language that brought me closer to him. One evening, however, we went to dinner and in front of all his collaborators he said to me: ‘This evening you were also out of tune’. He he never gave anyone any discounts, me neither. I feared his judgment but then in the last year he managed to tell me that he liked my songs.”

Toto Cutugno fought against a prostate cancer which struck him in 2007. However, the illness did not prevent him from participating in the Sanremo Festival the following year. “Dad managed to fight the disease with great courage. For me he was a source of inspiration because he did not give in to this disease. This strength is what struck me the most. We shared the last days of his life in silence but with great affection,” Niko revealed.
