The new erotic tennis film with Zendaya, Challengers, it’s turning heads like dribblers on a Wimbledon court.
In the film, the character of ZendayaTashi, is a first-rate promise of tennis, until a serious injury forces her to the sidelines, where she spends her time coaching her husband Art. However, when Art (Mike Faist) suffers a series of defeats after recovering from an injury himself, the woman, to help him regain control of the game, schedules lower level matches for him. The couple, however, find themselves embroiled in a sexual entanglement when Art must confront his former best friend and Tashi’s former flame, Patrick (Josh O’Connor).
The film was released in theaters on April 26 and has already garnered rave reviews, but what if I told you that Are the characters of Zendaya and Faist partially inspired by a real-life former tennis couple? Although the screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes realized how “kinegenic” tennis was by watching Naomi Osaka defeat Serena Williams at the 2018 US Openit turned out that Tashi’s story has several things in common with that of his wife Roger Federer, Mirka (Miroslava Vavrinec).
In an interview with GQ, Kuritzkes said he was struck by Mirka’s “stressed” expressions during her husband’s 2019 Wimbledon match against Novak Djokovic. “I looked at her,” she said, “and thought, ‘Why are you so stressed? You have all the money in the world. You’ve won 20 grand slams. Why are you so upset? There must be something else.’
