A millionaire Of YouTube, determined to prove that he could build a million-dollar fortune from scratch in a year, he was forced to abandon the challenge. The target? Build a $1 million (£808,000) fortune in a year. Mike Black, however, was unable to make it happen after ten months due to health problems. Despite him reaching $64,000 (£51,700), he has prioritized his wellbeing, saying “health and family come first”.

The illness

Mike, battling chronic fatigue and joint pain from two autoimmune diseases, concluded his project by prioritizing health: “Family comes first.” Mike, a self-proclaimed entrepreneur, found homelessness tough after giving up his home, his car and his livelihood. Deprived of even water and struggling to find shelter, his first nights during the challenge were tough. Much to his relief, a kind stranger offered him a place to stay in his van.

The beginnings

Mike earned his first $300 (£242) selling furniture online. Mike took on this challenge to demonstrate the potential of building a fortune through hard work. “I knew a lot of people who lost everything during the pandemic and became really depressed. I even had a friend who lost a $10 million business overnight,” Mike said in a YouTube video. Mike was forced to stop the project halfway. “I have officially decided to end the project early,” he announced.

The challenge

Mike’s “Million Dollar Comeback Challenge” involved him building a new business and growing it to a million dollar valuation. But the goal remained unattainable. Despite initial difficulties, he managed to find a way to make money. “One of the best things to sell are tables,” he said. Mike uploaded photos of the tables for free to Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace and sold them. He acted as an intermediary who facilitated transactions between buyers and sellers.

Within five days, his furniture flipping efforts had generated enough money for a computer, the Mirror reported. Then she found an apartment and landed a social media manager role within three months. But his ambitions went beyond employment and he launched his own coffee brand. “Look where we are right now. We’re not making millions of dollars, but look I’ll potentially live in a house without having to pay rent. I’m getting calls from big tech companies. Three months ago I was homeless!”

The failure

The project took a personal turn on day 138, when Mike learned his father had colon cancer. “Health and family come first,” he said, giving priority to his loved ones and finishing the challenge with 60 days to go. Mike’s experience offered a valuable lesson: “We should always remember to help those in need because it may be the opportunity they need.”
