«Vaccine withdrawn because Covid is under control»

The withdrawal of anti-Covid vaccines carried out by the Anglo-Swedish pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca also continues to hold sway in the Marche. The existence of more updated vaccines on the market that act against new variants of the virus is the official reason with which the company has withdrawn the doses from the market.

A decision that came after the European Medicines Agency issued a warning on Tuesday 7 May that the vaccine was no longer authorized for use in member states. Astrazeneca had further clarified its decision by explaining that it had withdrawn the product due to “a surplus of vaccines” updated against the new variants of Covid, more suitable and more effective, as well as an increase in “competition” which had led to a drastic decline of the question. At the end of April the pharmaceutical giant, sued in a class action in the United Kingdom, admitted for the first time that the Covid vaccine could cause a side effect known as thrombosis syndrome.

AstraZeneca had also been used, for a period, in the vaccinations of residents of elderly residences. On Thursday 9 May, Mauro Michielon, president of Israa Treviso, commented on AstraZeneca’s withdrawal from the market with these words: «It was a vaccine that was now outdated because over the years the virus has changed radically. Fortunately, today Covid is under control, even in our four facilities in Treviso no sensational cases have been recorded and the few infections are all under control”.
