The climate change and extreme events they seem to have increased the level of attention of Italians. Thinking about your own home, only 16% consider it safe and does not perceive this type of risk. Eight out of ten (82%) on the contrary say they are more sensitive than they were even just a few years ago and of these more than half, 42%, say they are strongly worried that with the intensification of the phenomena their home could suffer damage also very relevant in the near future. This was revealed by the latest research from the Sara Assicurazioni Observatory.

This concern over the past few years has even pushed one Italian in three (32%) is thinking of moving to a safer areaeven if, 20% say, the general feeling is that these events can now happen anywhere and there are no areas that can be said to be at zero risk.

Our country is in fact particularly exposed to calamitous phenomena. According to the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA), 94% of Italian municipalities are at potential risk of landslides, floods and coastal erosion. Furthermore, last year, as underlined by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, 16,307 earthquakes were recorded in Italy, one every 30 minutes, in line with 2022.

For reduce these risks and their consequences on people, goods and homes, according to Italians, interventions are first and foremost necessary to make the territory safe and contain hydrogeological risk (40%). It would also be necessary to improve the safety of existing buildings (33%) and invest in technology (23%), especially for preventive purposes, for example through warning sensors.

To further reduce the effects of these phenomena, 60% of Italians today would consider insuring their home against 40% who were reluctant. If the reasons for the “no” are above all linked to the lack of knowledge of this type of policy (27%) and the presence of other expenses to bear (21%), what pushes six out of ten compatriots towards this possibility is instead the desire to protect themselves economically in the event of damage and the greater declared sensitivity to these risks.
