An important and unprecedented decision by the Higher Regional Court of Bamberg (Germany) which ordered the pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca to provide detailed information on the side effects of its Vaxzevria vaccine against Covid-19. This verdict is the result of a lawsuit brought by a woman from Upper Franconia, who reported serious damage to her health after receiving the vaccine.

The case

The woman (33 years old), after receiving the vaccine dose, developed intestinal venous thrombosis, an extremely rare and very serious type of blood clot, which put her in a coma and required delicate surgery to remove a portion of his intestine. The case is reported by Apollo News. After her convalescence, the 33-year-old decided to sue AstraZeneca not only for the damages suffered following the vaccination, but also for the pain and suffering she felt during this long period.

The sentence

The court specifically requested AstraZeneca to disclose all data relating to cases of thrombosis with thrombocytopenic syndrome (TTS), a possible contraindication of anti-COVID-19 vaccines, including Vaxzevria, which AIFA also spoke about. The verdict requires AstraZeneca to provide detailed information about the vaccine’s side effects in the period between the vaccine’s approval at the end of December 2020 and February 19, 2024. The woman’s lawyer, Volker Loeschner, stressed the importance of this information not only for the case in question, but also for other similar ongoing and future legal proceedings. The 32-year-old’s request for compensation amounts to at least 250 thousand euros for pain and suffering, around 17 thousand euros for lost earnings in the period in which she was unable to work, up to 600 thousand euros for all future problems that will occur in following the past ordeal.
