The hospital service of Center for Diagnostics of Abused Children ensures early diagnosis, diagnosis of damage and specific treatment in cases of greater clinical complexity; Furthermore, it is the point of reference for consultancy and management of the national hospital network and the regional primary care network. In the Center there are ten beds, there is a day hospital, and an integrated clinic is operational. The Center’s team is made up of a pediatric specialist, a community medicine specialist, a psychologist and a nurse.
The Center for Diagnostics of Abused Children Since 2008, when the clinical activity began, it has taken care of 1600 families with children who are victims of violence within the family or outside the family (peer violence, bullying, pedophilia, community violence).
On average, 35 children are visited in a month, while 300 consultations have been provided.
Some numbers: one in 3 diagnoses occurs within 3 years of life, 55 percent of patients are girls, the diagnoses occur mainly in both pediatric and adult emergency rooms (35 percent of the total), most of the diagnoses can be traced back to physical abuse, serious neglect, abuse of chemical substances. It should be underlined that 30 percent of the consultations provided by the Center come from other Veneto cities and 10 percent from outside the region.
Finally, it is worth remembering that the global guidelines for the diagnosis and care of abused children were written in 1999 and among the 50 experts who contributed to the drafting of the document there were also Company professionals.
