Career, resistance and family ties
Today, Caterina De Angelis is undoubtedly a rising star of cinema. His father Renato is his “first fan”, an enthusiastic supporter of this artistic choice. The reactions of mother Margherita were very different, as she initially did not want her daughter to undertake the same career. Precisely for this reason, Caterina took her first steps in the world of auditions secretly, hiding her ambitions from her mother. Only when she passed the selections for “Vita da Carlo”, Margherita Buy’s doubts dissolved, leaving room for sincere pride.
“I never wanted her to become an actress. Instead, obviously, it happened; it’s happening. Children never listen to their parents’ advice. And that’s perfectly fine. I’m happy for her. Even quite proud,” confessed the sixty-two-year-old Margherita in an interview. He then added: “We have a beautiful relationship. She is much more mature than me, in many ways. She is capable of listening to me and understanding me, even at the age of 23. She is ironic like her father. Pungent, if necessary. Sometimes she makes me angry, because she is harsh with her advice or reproaches. Then I reflect on it and realize that she is right. She is my best friend.”
Caterina also underlined their profound character differences: Margherita “is much more reserved”. Despite the physical similarities, Caterina admits: “I usually look like mum until they see dad. In fact, my brothers on my father’s side are the same as me…” This difference is, in her opinion, a strong point: “Mum is wonderful, I love her a lot and we get along very well but if we were two drops of a pod it would be even more complicated.”
Between passion for animals, training and a promising future
Caterina’s path to acting was not linear. He lived for four years in London, where he obtained a degree in Cinematographic Sciences. “I was about to get British citizenship when I realized that acting was my future,” he said. This awareness pushed her to return to Rome to “chase the dream that had always been in my head and from which I was trying to escape by telling myself a lot of lies.”
Back in the capital, Caterina faced and passed the very tough entrance exam to the Silvio D’Amico National Academy of Dramatic Arts, which she has been attending for two years now. The academic experience gave her “great personal growth” and favored the creation of “great harmony” among the students. However, being a “daughter of art” initially brought her distrust and malice from some of her classmates: “At the beginning my classmates were real assholes,” she admitted in an interview with Il Messaggero. But her determination got the better of her: “Then I won them over with commitment. They understood that I want to start from the lowest step and I don’t look for shortcuts. I know I have to work hard, I’m a under special surveillance. But I’ll give it my all.”
The passion for animals, never subsided, remains very strong: “They are obsessed with dogssince I was little. I love them madly, I know everything about dogs, I know every breed. And I love animals in general: I’m obsessed with having to save them all: from birds to ladybugs,” she revealed some time ago. With a bright future ahead of her and constant commitment, Caterina De Angelis is establishing herself as one of the most promising figures in Italian cinema, pursuing not only her acting talent but also a sincere passion for life and animals, evidenced by her engagement to Giangiacomo Magnifico, who has been at her side for about three years.
