Monica Bellucci he explained that although he lives in Paris for decades now, it still feels like one foreign in France.
The film diva, who will turn 60 in September, told ‘The Republic’ of not feeling like I belong to any country. On the one hand this gives her freedom, on the other it sometimes makes her feel lost.
Interviewed by the newspaper, she spoke about Maria Callas, who she played in the theater show taken around the world ‘Maria Callas: Letters and Memoirs’.
He said of the opera diva: “She is a pioneer of female independence. She wanted a divorce at a time when divorce was not an option. She faced life with her heart. It all adds up: we find ourselves in a historical moment in which women, in society, are less afraid of their own voice, and fight tooth and nail. I will miss Callas as a child.”.
When asked what she has in common with her, she replied: “Don’t belong to any country. Remain unknown. I know this feeling well: I’m Italian but I live in Paris, when I live in France I remain a foreigner, and if I return to Italy something distant resurfaces”.
Monica, who was born in Città di Castello, Umbria, and has two daughters, Devaborn September 12, 2004, e Léonieon May 21, 2010, with her French ex-husband Vincent Cassel, continued: “Not having roots makes me feel freer and, at times, lost. In the end, to give birth to my daughters, Deva and Léonie, I did like the turtles: I returned to my place of origin”.
Bellucci, who is now linked to the English director Tim Burtonthen revealed what she would have done with her life if she hadn’t become an actress: “Children are very dear to me. After law school I would probably have dealt with children’s problems”.
