Linda Evangelista at the Met Gala 2024: Khaite’s draped dress is a hymn to chic minimalism

Linda Evangelista appeared on the red carpet of the 2024 Met Gala, 9 years later (the last time she participated in the most important fashion event was 2015) and after her return to public life last September. “I can’t believe I’m actually going there!”, the American top model had previously declared to Vogue.

The supermodel arrived at the Met Gala on the arm of jewelry designer Ana Khouri in a custom dress by Khaite.

While many attendees at fashion’s big night choose to step outside of reality, Evangelista wanted above all to feel like herself. For this reason she turned to a brand that is a pillar of her wardrobe. «In real life I wear a lot of Khaite clothing», she declared, the Evangelist who personally contacted Khaite stylist Catherine Holstein to ask her if she would create her look: «she accepted and I was so excited!».

Evangelista had only one request for the evening: no black. Together, they created a dress in organic silk gazar that wrapped the model’s body “light as a cloud”.

«Linda is a legendary icon, we wanted nothing more than to simply frame her face, keeping the concept as simple as possible», explains designer Catherine Holstein. «The fabric is literally draped around her entire body up to the collarbone, to leave visibility to Ana’s magnificent jewels. Working on this look with both of them is a dream come true.”

The model, who studied gemology in high school, was thrilled to wear jewelry by Khouri, who for the occasion constructed chandelier earrings with tourmalines in two different shades of green, lime and aqua. “I have always looked to the natural world to create my pieces,” says Khouri, “and for this year’s Met Gala theme it seemed like the perfect approach. Earrings with green tourmalines that capture the nature and time that surrounds us. Linda’s eyes are special, their beauty is truly unparalleled, I tried to take inspiration from the color of the iris to create a pair of equally ‘unparalleled’ earrings: a set of stones incredibly blue like her eyes and a set of stones radiant greens that connect to nature.”
