The 2024 edition of the Met Gala was held on Monday evening, the most expensive and spectacular charity evening in the world of fashion and entertainment, organized every year by the magazine Vogue at the Metropolitan Museum in New York and which this year had as its theme Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion (Sleeping Beauties: fashion awakening).
The dress code was “The Garden of Time” from the name of the short story of the same name written by the English author JG Ballard in 1962, and as per tradition there was a crowd of movie stars, of music, entertainment, fashion and sport dressed in often extravagant and flashy ways. Among others, singers Bad Bunny and Lil Nas X, colleagues Jennifer Lopez and Nicki Minaj, British actor Josh O’Connor and American actress Zendaya stood out.
Guests at the Met Gala are invited to dress taking inspiration from the theme of the evening: on Monday evening there were many dresses with direct references to flowers, petals, branches and leaves, while others played with the themes of time and the history of the story of Ballard, who imagines an aristocratic couple living in a walled villa with a magical garden, threatened by a mob who wants to enter their world and destroy it; to prevent this, every evening the couple cuts the stem of a flower, which allows them to experience another enchanted day.
The creator of all this is Anna Wintour, the famous director of American Vogue (who has since become global director of Condé Nast, the publishing group she owns Vogue and other publications such as Vanity Fair, GQ and the New Yorker) which has organized the Met Gala continuously since 1999, after a first experience in 1995.
