«Do you realize how out of place you are when you write or say to a person who muzzles their dog: “but poor thing, take it off” or various related things of useless pietism?», he underlined in his Instagram stories. «Do you think I get up one morning and decide to do it because I’m crazy? And in any case every dog should know how to wear a muzzle and your: “I would never be able to” has done more damage than good.”
Delogu then takes matters further, laughing at a video that recommends putting down elderly dogs: «Many of you experience your pet as an extension of yourself. When it no longer resembles us, when we no longer share sensations, then it can die. A dog, even if he can’t see or is a little dazed, is fine. If he eats well and does what he has to do he is fine. An animal is killed if the suffering is such that it cannot overcome it, not if it has aged.”
The presenter added: «I never recommend getting a dog, getting it must be a very thoughtful choice. It is a continuous commitment and not just economic. Spilla saved my life, I needed her to understand many things about myself but I continue to say that if you want a dog in your life you have to be more than certain. It’s not a game, there’s no going back, it has a different character than yours and a different life than yours. It’s up to you, it’s not you. Many of you are writing to me when unfortunately you have had to decide, on the advice of your vet, to euthanize your dog following incurable painful illnesses or irrecoverable accidents.
