For the moment they are only predictions, but at least for once they seem positive. In 2026 the bills could “lighten”: it is the effect of a favorable situation in energy prices which will “reward” consumers.

The numbers

According to estimates by Facile.it, an online portal that compares offers for domestic users, in the year now upon us a typical family with a free market contract will save a total of 212 euros on gas and electricity compared to 2025. In detail, the total expenditure of a family unit will amount to 2,236 euros, down 9%; the most marked decrease will above all concern the gas bill (-12%, 198 euros less), which is also the one that has the greatest impact on family budgets, while a minimal contraction is estimated for electricity (-2%, the remaining 14 euros in savings).

The local scenario

The national forecasts are also superimposable on the local scenario. «Lately also our investigations with various managers have highlighted a decrease in energy costs, resulting in interesting offers for customers”, confirms Mina Busi, president of Adiconsum Bergamo. Of course, not everyone will benefit from it: the real difference is the type of contract in place.

«Monitoring your bills»

«For this reason – continues Busi – it is essential that people update themselves and monitor their bills, checking whether the conditions are still competitive or whether it is necessary to renegotiate them: Generally, when you contact your manager and ask to lower the price, the company is often willing to accommodate the customer so as not to lose him. However, we are in a more stable situation compared to the most difficult years, i.e. 2022-2023″.

The opinion of Christian Perria, president of Federconsumatori Bergamo, is more prudent: «I always am hesitant about forecasts, especially optimistic ones, because the energy market is influenced by variables that are very difficult to control. A decisive unknown, for example, is the fact that the cost of electricity is always “coupled” with that of gas: in a scenario of geopolitical tensions, critical issues remain, for example on the import prices of liquid natural gas from the United States”.

The clarifications

Some clarifications also come from Facile.it: «The expected reduction is undoubtedly good news for consumers, but be careful because Only customers with an indexed price supply contract will automatically benefit from the drop which will automatically adapt to the trend of the Pun and Psv indices (the single national price and the virtual exchange point which determine the reference values in Italy, ed.). The advice, especially for those who have a fixed price tariff, is therefore to periodically compare their offer with those of other suppliers so as to be able to promptly seize any savings opportunities that may arise in the coming months”.

Be careful with phone calls

Then there remains a fundamental issue: the risks represented by insistent phone calls offering contracts that are often disadvantageous. «It is still a very widespread reality: On a daily basis, in our branches we receive people who have fallen for harmful proposals”, remarks Busi. Also according to Perria «deceptive phone calls are still the order of the day. The numbering has changed, now most call centers call with foreign numbers and this makes most users suspicious, who do not answer. However, there are still gods Italian numbers, duly authorized, which can be misleading: whoever calls says they are the current manager, but this is never the case, because in reality they are other companies”.
