Electric cars, the serious mistake of politics: the cry for help arrives

Is politics doing everything possible to shake up the skepticism that exists around electric cars? Some think not.

Electric cars represent our future, or at least this would be the intention of the European Union, which has decided that it is important for this type of vehicle to represent our future. Despite this, many do not seem to be ready for change yet, it is undeniable.

When you find yourself choosing a new model, in most cases you focus on the petrol or diesel version, especially because the difference in costs still appears quite evident. Motorists are not yet looking at that moment when it will be necessary to move accordingly, convinced that the established deadline is still several years away.

Why are electric cars still not convincing?

Costs can only have a very specific weight when you find yourself evaluating the purchase of a new car. It is no coincidence that when you are undecided between multiple models it is the budget that makes the difference and influences the final choice.

However, it is a mistake, at least according to some insiders, to think that there could also be a role fear of being left “dry”. The new cars, in fact, now have aautonomy greater than in the past, which is why with one charge it is possible to travel a road of up to several hundred kilometres. Alessandro Lagoeditorial director of Motor1.com and InsideEVs.it, newspapers promoting the Electric Days which took place in Rome, believes that it is really fundamental that there can be an important step from politics and from the Government of the day in particular, so as to really try to move the market.

Politics ends up following the belly of the people – he told Tuttomotoriweb.it -. Politics tends to pander to people, while it would be better if it could guide slightly more conscious choices. Not enough is being done to facilitate the transition to electric. Until now, the institutions have contributed to fueling fears, without going further, this certainly does not help companies in the sector”.

However, the reasons why we are still skeptical are not difficult to identify: “The ecological transition has been communicated as something necessary by law, we tend to rebel more easily. Italians are often more resistant to things that are imposed from above. By driving hybrid or electric cars you immediately realize that you actually drive better, but favoring electric is in everyone’s interest” – he concluded.
