New cyber threat causes fear on a large scale: attacks that are difficult to undermine

Unfortunately, there is a new threat in the IT sector, mainly represented by dangerous cyber-attacks. Here’s what it is.

Modern technology has not only brought well being, speed And comfort, but also a new criminal sector: the so-called cybercrime. The latter is essentially a field that encompasses a series of computer crimes, which are carried out through a computer and specific software.

Cyber-criminals try to defraud or mislead users sending them some false email, within which there may be dangerous viruses. This new type of crime is unfortunately increasing along the way, especially thanks to the spread of IT and electronic devices. In fact, most humans have one smartphones it’s a computerwithin which there is a real gold mine: passwords and sensitive data.

Cyber-attacks are increasingly powerful

Savvy cybercriminals are currently exploiting the Phorpiex Botnet to strengthen their cyberattacks. This is a malware platform, which is usually used to amplify the impact of cyber-attack. To be precise, the procedure consists of sending millions of emails containing viruses to countries that do not collaborate with Western authorities.

The main goal of cyber criminals is therefore to send phishing emails via the Botnet Phorpiex, to start a large-scale ransomware campaign. So what are the most important characteristics of this cyber attack?

First, Proofpoint’s Threat Research team has not yet identified the authors behind the recent ransomware campaign. It should also be remembered that Phorpiex is a rather simple botnet, specifically designed to distribute malware by sending a large number of emails.

This particular platform, which operates as Malware-as-a-Service, it also collected a huge amount of data in the last decade. Its introduction dates back to 2011. However, experts from the Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Cell of New Jersey stated that cybercriminals exploit ZIP attachments to distribute the LockBit Black payload.

It is therefore a ingenious mechanismwhich allows you to encrypt computer systems of the recipients. What is most surprising is the volume of emails sent and the vulnerability of the countermeasures, which should protect the devices.

According to industry experts, thecurrent technology implemented to curb cyber-attacks it is unfortunately insufficient, especially to block large-scale attacks. As for the LockBit Black ransomware distributed in emails, this could come from using LockBit 3.0. The latter would in turn come from a developer present on Twitter.
