We are the joke of Europe, with dealers waiting for months to register their cars with new ones sumptuous bonuses announced in mid-December by the minister Adolfo Urso. And so, in a car market that is growing overall (+7.5% with 135,353 cars sold in April), registrations of electric vehicles plummet to their lowest levels. We are at 3,208 EV in April, against 3,992 of the same period of 2023, which was certainly not a month to remember. Foreign manufacturers look with dismay at what is happening. Teslawhich measures sales in the thousands in all the major European markets, records a few hundred registrations in Italy: Model Y remains leader, but at altitude 237. While the Fiat 500e falls to 102 registrations, even beaten by its “cousin” (of the Stellantis group) Jeep Avengerat altitude 191.

Builders: incentives arriving mid-month (maybe)

But when will these blessed incentives arrive? To get some indication we must rely on the reassurances received from the manufacturers, who are now talking about mid-May. This is in fact the indication Michele Criscipresident ofUNRAE, in his statement commenting on the sales results: “On the front of cars “with the plug” proceed in reverse. The prolonged waiting for the incentives, which will not be law before mid-May, reduces the effects on the market to the last 4 months. And it continues into April too market paralysis for BEVs and PHEVs (plug-in hybrids): in the month the former stopped at 2.3% share and the latter at 3.3%”. And this is another Italian anomaly compared to the rest of Europe: more plug-ins continue to be sold than pure electric ones, in a market that is still wary of cars with plugs.
