Dramatic news at Stellantis, with the stop reaching Italy, thus making the situation even more critical.
The Stellantis Group in recent years it has shown itself to be increasingly attentive to innovations on the market and this can be seen above all in its desire to focus heavily on electric. This is a very ambitious project which demonstrates how attention to the environment is essential.
For this reason the Group is also seeking a series of financing from the Italian Government, even if for the moment the divergences are evident. Stellantis in fact it would like a series of benefits so as to be able to continue production in Italy without relocating, while the Government studies the possibility of taking up shares in the company.
This would be sensational news to say the least, but it would actually allow Italy to find itself in the same situation as France, with the Government of Paris which holds 6% of the Group’s shares. Precisely this disparity in treatment between France and Italy never got to the bottom of Giorgia Meloni.
The latter is also trying to find a point of contact with new automotive groups to ensure that car production in Italy increases. Meanwhile, bad news arrives from the front Stellantis, with Italian workers having to grit their teeth once again.
Stop for Mirafiori: workers laid off
The now increasingly dramatic and complicated situation of the Mirafiori factory does not improve at all, with Stellantis which seems far from finding a solution for this factory. It now seemed close to ending the layoffs for the workers of the Turin factory, with the return to normality scheduled for May 7, but now it’s time to stop everything once again.
There will be another month of forced stop, with the return to traditional work which will only take place on 3 June 2024. A decision which is dictated by the fact that the electric car market continues to not take off, with these cars which, when government incentives for their purchase end, they effectively become unsold.
The unions are increasingly trying to find common ground with Stellantis, in such a way as to be able to unblock an increasingly complicated situation. “Another month’s stop is a slap in the face to workers and the entire city of Turin”, this is how the secretary of the FIOM CGIL of Turin defined the increasingly problematic situation Eddie Lazzi, as reported hdmotori.it.
Unfortunately, at the moment it seems necessary to return to thermal production, with these cars being firstly less expensive and secondly guaranteeing more performance. Stellantis must deal with the crisis in the sector, considering how the Mirafiori blockade is the demonstration of how we must try to avoid an ideological battle over cars and must think first of all about the good of the workers. Mirafiori it is a historic factory in the world of four wheels and certainly does not deserve to experience such a situation.
