If you don’t have an electric car, a 5,000 euro fine: a new crazy proposal from Europe

Crazy proposal to try to encourage the sustainable market of electric cars: the idea comes from the central European country.

For some time now the European Union has been trying to encourage the so-called as much as possible ecological transition. That is, the transition to adopting means of transport as much as possible sustainable possible, so as to avoid the pollution chaos that is damaging nature, the air and the ecosystem in general.

Some general rules have already been dictated, with the request to car manufacturers to produce more and more electric or hybrid vehicles, instead setting aside internal combustion engines, i.e. those with the highest pollution rate. Not a simple process, given that in some European countries the transition is going slowly.

One of the states where it is difficult to adapt to automotive change is France. Precisely for this reason, Emmanuel Macron’s government has decided to propose a law to reduce the carbon footprint of company fleets with more than one hundred vehicles in their fleet, and which provides a very tight timetable for the adoption of zero-emission vehicles. Sorry, sanctions very salty for those who do not respect the deadlines.

France, harsh punch for those who don’t switch to electric

In France there already exists a similar rule: the Loi d’Orientation des Mobilité, in force since 2019 with the aim of arriving at 2030 with at least 70% sustainable vehicles. Given the lack of consistency of this law, the deputy of Renaissance Damien Adamproposed a more severe version: already approved last April 9 by the Commission for Sustainable Development, it will be submitted to the French parliament for a vote by the end of the month.

The first innovation of the proposed law is to consider only cars that emit less than 20 g/km of CO2 as green and sustainable, thus cutting hybrids and focusing everything on 100% electric vehicles. The second novelty is the extension of the roadmap, which envisages progressively increasing the number of Drink between now and the next ten years: 20% of electric cars by 2024, 50% by 2027 (40% with the current law), 80% by 2030 (70% with the current law), 90% by 2031, 95% by 2032.

To ensure that the law works and is respected, we will focus on a very strict sanctioning system. Even the fines therefore they will be progressive: starting from 2,000 euros for each car not in compliance in 2025, reaching 5,000 euros for 2027 and up to a maximum 1% of company turnover. Heavy fines for the good of the ecosystem, but will it be enough to convince an entire country?
