Mitsubishi ASX, the restyling arrives. New look and more technology

For Mitsubishi ASX the time has come to indulge a restyling which introduces some new designs and more technology. The launch on the Italian market is expected at the end of June 2024. At the time of writing there is no information on prices for Italy. As we know, Mitsubishi ASX is closely derived from the recently updated Renault Captur. The new model from the Japanese car manufacturer is therefore based on the restyling of the French brand’s car.

Once on the market, the new ASX will be offered in the INFORM, INVITE, INTENSE and INSTYLE trim levels.

DESIGN AND INTERIORS

The innovations in terms of design concern mainly the front where we find new horizontal headlights with arrow-shaped LED daytime running lights underneath. Compared to the French manufacturer’s model, the new Mitsubishi ASX differs from itself with a different grille and a revised bumper.

The new model is available in the metallic colors Crystal White, Sunrise Red, Onyx Black, Royal Blue, and Steel Grey. In the INTENSE and INSTYLE trim levels it is also possible to request a contrasting Onyx Black roof. 17 or 18 inch wheels available.

As for the interior, the most important news concerns the technology. The new infotainment system can count on a 10.4 inch vertical display and on the Android Automotive platform. With Google integrated, drivers have access to apps and services like Google Maps. We also find Google Assistant and there is no lack of support for computers either OTA updates.

Behind the steering wheel there is a 7 or 10 inch digital instrument screen, depending on the trim level. New ASX includes a premium Harman Kardon audio system. Furthermore, it can also count on a panoramic sunroof. 690mm wide, it has three intermediate opening options, all easily controlled via a control positioned above the interior rear-view mirror. The trunk is modular, thanks to the rear bench that can slide.

In detail, the bench slides forward by 16cm, allowing for even more space and storage in the boot or more legroom: this equates to an additional 69 liters of load capacity on top of the standard 332 litres.

ENGINES

The new Mitsubishi ASX is offered with 3 different engines: petrol, Mild Hybrid and Full Hybrid. Going into more detail, the entry engine is a three-cylinder turbo petrol with 1 liter displacement combined with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The unit is capable of producing 90 HP of power and 160 Nm of torque. Consumption equal to 5.7 litres/100 km and emissions of 130 g/km of CO2.

The new model is then offered with a 1.3-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged direct injection petrol engine integrated with a Mild Hybrid system (unit offered in two power levels). The gearbox can be a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic. The engine produces 140 HP/260 Nm with the manual gearbox or 160 HP/270 Nm, with the 7DCT. Consumption and emissions: 5.7 litres/100 km and 130 g/km CO2 and 5.8 litres/100 km and 132 g/km CO2.

On the safety front, the new model offers various driving assistance systems. In high-end models, the car offers the MI-PILOT (Mitsubishi Intelligent – PILOT) system, which combines adaptive cruise control and Lane Keeping Assist (LCA).
