Telepass: comparison with Unipolmove and Mooneygo: costs, services, devices and plates

Telepass reorganizes its range but fares go up. However, there is no shortage of alternatives: here they are compared with the best-known electronic toll system in Italy

After the news of Telepass’s repositioning on the market in July, with the associated adjustment (upwards) of subscription rates, some motorists have started to look around in case they decide to say goodbye to the historic electronic toll service. There is no shortage of alternatives: they are there UnipolMoveowned by the Italian banking insurance giant, e MooneyGo, a company of Enel and Intesa Sanpaolo which quickly gained notoriety thanks also to an excellent sponsor like Valentino Rossi. It is the ideal opportunity for compare the three servicesTelepass with the fees that will start in the summer and the others at the current conditions, assuming that they remain unchanged between now and July.

SERVICES AND COSTS

As we noted a few months ago, the higher cost of Telepass compared to the competition is due to the variety of toll-related services, its bouquet is very assorted. However, it is not certain that such a wide and abundant range is necessary for everyone, so it makes sense for everyone to carefully evaluate the different proposals that have appeared on the market over the years, in search of the best compromise between services and costs. In this regard, both Telepass and UnipolMove and MooneyGo offer subscription or pay per use formulastherefore suitable for different types of motorists: the first is suitable for those who travel a lot by car, the second for those who rarely see motorway toll booths.

Mode pay per usei.e. payment commensurate with use:

  • Telepass: 10 euros for activation + 1 euro per day of use;
  • UnipolMove: 10 euros for activation + 0.50 euros per day of use;
  • MooneyGo: 10 euros for activation + 2.20 euros per month of use.

Mode by subscription:

  • Telepass Basic (there are other packages): 3.90 euros per month, activation included;
  • UnipolMove (one package): normally 10 euros for activation and 1.50 euros per month but there are often promotions that cut costs; at the time of writing there is the Move Away promo, valid until 7 May: activation and the first 12 months of rent free for two devices, then 1.50 euros per month for the first and 1 euro per month, possibly, for The second one;
  • MooneyGo (one package only): 1.50 euros per month with 5 euros for activation.

There are two questions that are read most frequently when the topic is electronic tolls: how many devices they can be requested with a single contract, e how many license plates Can they be paired with each device? On the number of devices:

  • Telepass has the Twin option, which allows you to add a second device in a color of your choice to the contract; right now it costs 0.88 euros for 3 months, then 2.88 euros per month and roadside assistance in Italy is included;
  • UnipolMove allows you to use the same contract on more than one vehicle: you can have a second device with the same offer pay per use again at 0.50 euros per day, those who have a subscription contract pay 1 euro more per month for the second device, if requested upon activation the fee is free for one year;
  • MooneyGo it does not allow you to have a second device if you activate the electronic toll service in a physical point of sale, you can have it by signing the contract online or via the smartphone app: in this case you can request up to three devices with a MooneyGo account.

As regards the plates for device:

  • Telepass allows you to record up to 2 license plates per device, only one for contracts pay per use;
  • UnipolMove allows only one license plate per device, but it can be changed at any time;
