Pensions, May payment dates and increases (not for everyone) – QuiFinanza
Descriptive text here

As already happened in April, pensioners will also have to wait one more day to collect their pension in May. In fact, the payment for the May 1st holiday has been postponed, so we will have to wait the first bankable day to be able to make cash credits and withdrawals, e only for a few the payslip will be richer thanks to the recalculation of the arrears of the ISTAT revaluation of 5.4% and the latest adjustments for the reduction of Irpef rates, now almost completely completed
The raises won’t be for all retirees, but those who receive them may find up to 400 euros more on the payslip.

When is the pension paid in May

For those who collect their pension in cash at post offices, the May dates according to the usual alphabetical order are:

  • Thursday 2 May: surnames from A to B
  • Friday 3 May: surnames from C to D
  • Saturday 4 May (morning only): surnames from E to K;
  • Monday 6 May from L to O;
  • Tuesday 7 May surnames from P to R;
  • Wednesday 8 May surnames from S to Z.

The credit will also be postponed by one day for those who have the credit on their current account (postal or bank) or on their postal passbook: the availability of the pension on the account will be starting May 2nd.
The only ones to receive pensions earlier than the others are Banco Posta account holdersfor which early accreditation is expected, as already happened in April, between Tuesday 30 April and Wednesday 1 May.

Increases in the May payslip (but not for everyone)

May pensions will see higher amounts but not for all pensioners. Only those who have not received the increase due to the automatic revaluation of pensions and the arrears of previous months could receive up to 400 euros more. The monthly increases in fact range from over 100 euros to around 70 euros, and the arrears concern the four previous months, from January to April.
We’re talking about increases linked to the revaluation of the pension based on 2023 inflation, with increases equal to 5.4% for checks up to 4 times the minimum payment, to be deducted for higher amounts up to 1.2% (equal to 22% of 5.4%) for checks over 10 times the minimum. The increase, applied not only to smaller pensions, but also to income brackets between 15,001 euros and 28,000 euros, will entail a significant tax break. In fact, pensioners within this income bracket will benefit from a reduction in the Irpef rate to 23%, following the elimination of the previous bracket of 25%.

Below are the pension amounts and increases band by band:

  • 1,000 euros (5.4%): increase of 54 euros gross per month
  • 1,500 euros (5.4%): increase of 81 euros gross per month
  • 2,000 euros (5.4%): increase of 108 euros gross per month
  • 2,500 euros (4.59%): increase of 114.75 euros gross per month
  • 3,000 euros (2.86%): increase of 85.80 euros gross per month
  • 3,500 euros (2.53%): increase of 88.55 euros gross per month
  • 4,000 euros (2.53%): increase of 101.20 euros gross per month
  • 5,000 euros (2%): increase of 100 euros gross per month
  • 6,000 euros (1.19%): increase of 71.40 euros gross per month.

The INPS calculation operations had already been underway since January but had not been completed in time for everyone, which is why the residual part will be paid with the May 2024 payslip.

The withholdings

Alongside the increases we have seen, some amounts will be withheld from the May pension payslip such as the monthly Irpef withholding tax, the regional and municipal surcharges for the 2023 balance and those on account for 2024 which concern the municipal ones.

How to check your payslip online

We remind you that pensioners can consult the payslip for the month of May on the INPS website to find out the amount of their pension.

INPS provides a preview of the payment of the pension slip. Consulting it is very simple: just go to the Institute’s website and click on the appropriate service which also contains pension payment notifications.
To access the service you must have Spid, Cie or Cns digital credentials. Once entered it is therefore necessary to click on “MyInps” and then go to link “Performances and Services”, then open “Pension payslip and related services”.
