From the Fiat Panda to the surprise Qashqai: the five most rented cars in Italy

Long-term rental continues its inexorable growth, marking a more than convincing +34% compared to the first quarter of 2023. Non-automotive companies continue on the diesel front (which alone accounts for 46% of contracts signed), while companies related to four wheels are mainly concentrated on hybrids and petrol. The average rental period is also growing, from 23 to 25 months, according to an analysis carried out by Unrae. On the private front, however, there was a slight growth of +5.46%, driven above all by the short term. But what are the cars most rented by Italians? According to the latest analysis conducted by Aniasa (National Association of the Car Rental, Sharing Mobility and Automotive Digital Industry) and Dataforce, in this first phase of the year the long-term ranking is dominated by the more than obvious Fiat Panda , with an increase of 25% compared to the same period in 2023. Compact and perfect car for any use, from the city to the countryside, also supported by the new mild hybrid engines. Next, somewhat surprisingly, is the Nissan Qashqai (+62%), one of the most popular, especially in the fleets of companies most oriented towards electrified engines. The presence of the new full e-Power hybrid powertrain ensures great competitiveness, especially as a replacement for diesels, which are now less popular in this segment. Also following closely behind is the Volkswagen T-Roc, a model much loved by Italians which, unlike the Japanese, was mainly chosen by private individuals. Continuing in the world of crossovers, we move on to the smaller Toyota Yaris Cross, a B-SUV that has literally become a hit on the European market: truly compact dimensions with just 4.18 m in length and a hybrid engine capable of average fuel consumption of over 22 km per litre. Ideal for the city and for some trips outside the built-up areas, suitable for young people or families. It too begins 2024 with notable growth, +68% compared to the first quarter of 2023. While waiting for the new model scheduled for the end of April – the Japanese company may have applied advantageous tariffs to reduce the available stock. In fifth and last position is another widely appreciated model, especially in Italy. We are talking about Kia Sportage, one of the most versatile and practical SUVs on the market. Although the dimensions grow to 4.51 m in length, it is a perfect car for families, even large ones. Lots of space on board and in the boot, with a range of engines to suit all tastes: hybrid, plug-in hybrid, petrol, mild-hybrid petrol or even diesel. The update will arrive in the next few months, but in the meantime, it ensures excellent value for money.

If we look instead at short-term rental, on the top step of the podium is the Lancia Ypsilon, then Fiat 500X, Fiat Panda, Fiat 500 and finally Jeep Renegade.
