It would seem that in this last period there is a sort of ‘negative air’ to breathe around one of the most loved and sold car models all over the world, not just here.

In Italy as elsewhere, not only for fashion but for a series of structural, aesthetic and performance reasons, there is a type of car that depopulatedpicking up one tide of consensus.

And the best-selling model, statistics in hand, but apparently, by many, paradoxically, even the most mistreated: yes, because there are quite a few criticisms that rain down on him.

What would they be, and why? Who would they come from? And above all, what type of model car are we talking about? It is clear that many will undoubtedly have already guessed what it is.

Just take a walk on the street to look at the similarity between many models in transit to understand which type is the most popular: and, as the ‘numbers’ say, we are talking about them, the SUVs.

SUV, the criticism that causes discussion: safety at stake

And the SUV the type of car that Italians, and not only them, love most in this precise historical moment. Yet it would appear that it is also the most dangerous type of car, in general, for pedestrians. That’s right: according to a statistic that is causing a lot of discussion, the number of deadeven, it would be in thirty percent growth from this point of view. But why?

The SUV it would represent a danger greater, compared to other types of cars, compared to pedestrians who find themselves crossing the road. It is a type of analysis to which research has been added: a study developed by Justin Tyndall, professor of economics at the University of Hawaii. What would this type of analysis be about? On two basic key concepts: the volume and electrification.

SUVs, are they really that dangerous?

According to the study, between 2000 and 2019 there would have been an increase of 30 percent deaths between pedestrians and for Tyndall, would be linked to the evolution of SUVs. According to the teacher, the increase in weight and size of the vehicle is linked to the presence of batteries in the models electricalit would affect.

At the beginning of the millennium the average weight was 1,745kg, while in 2019 was of 1,931 kg: or more than 10%, combined with a 21.5% increase in the presence of larger and heavier cars on the road which would have led to an increase in risks for passers-by due to impacts, even if accidental, on the road. The greatest weight, the greater volume and speed driving would be factors of greater danger, in the event of an impact, for passers-by.
