“I liked banks with revolving doors, a kick and the world would start turning. I would go out first, take out a whole clip and start the Wild West. They called us ‘the wild bunch’”. This is the Milan of the Seventies. Dark, leaden, and unrecognizable compared to today. In the streets, gun shells are trampled, the average murder rate is 150 a year, in the nightclubs criminals, entrepreneurs and show business personalities mingle and the gambling dens are hidden inside unsuspecting buildings. Here the destinies of the three bandits who will change the fate of the Milanese underworld cross for the first time, their names are spoken in low voices because they carry a trail of gunpowder behind them. They are three very different men: Francis Turatello, known as “Angel Face”, insatiable for power, Renato Vallanzasca, the “handsome René”, an anarchist robber who loves to always be the center of attention, and Angelo Epaminonda, known as “the Theban”, a ferocious and ruthless gangster. Born without owning anything, they are ready to take everything, first shooting each other, then forming alliances, then shooting again. Meanwhile, around them move the gang members, the policemen and the innocent victims.

It is a dark story of blood, betrayal and death but also of partnerships, power and love. Stefano Nazzi reconstructs it with his intense and pressing prose, telling the men behind the criminals and the shadows that made them such, because even though more than thirty years have passed since the last shot, their war songs still echo today.

Stefano Nazzi, journalist, has worked for some important national newspapers. He has always been involved in news, following the best-known and most resonant cases, but also less well-known events. Today he reports on news and current affairs for “il Post”. He is the creator and author of “Indagini”, at the top of the podcast charts, and of “Other investigations”, again for “il Post”. At Mondadori he published “The face of evil” (2023).
