The presentation of the book by anti-mafia magistrate Catello Maresca in Capodrise ends up at the center of controversy. The location for the event, in fact, is the house of the ‘disheartened’ former mayor Vincenzo Negro, candidate again for the tricolor band.

The event, scheduled for Monday, was publicized with a note, in which Negro himself highlighted: “A joy and an honor to have the opportunity to welcome a person of Doctor Maresca’s caliber to our city”. But the initiative has caused quite a bit of controversy.

First of all, Maresca is under guard for his investigations into the Camorra as public prosecutor at the DDA of Naples which have earned him threats, including death, from the mafia criminal organizations. So the presentation of his volume, “The State Always Wins”, evidently has “costs”, in addition to a series of logistical measures to be adopted.

Secondly, there is a question of political expediency. Maresca was, in 2021, the candidate for mayor of Naples supported by the centre-right. Although there is a past close to the National Alliance for the former mayor Negro, it must be said that in his list there are people who gravitate to the area headed by the regional councilor Giovanni Zannini.

Finally, the choice of location ‘excludes’ those who do not recognize themselves in Negro’s political project. “If he had come to the square I would have gladly gone to greet him but I wouldn’t go to a private house”, commented Giuseppe Fattopace of the political coordination of the Capodrise PD.
