Thanks to the “The knowledge of hands” project promoted by the Prospettiva Casentino Association, the students of the Dovizi Institute of Bibbiena will participate with one of their artefacts in the 15th edition of the Handmade Books Competition, organized by the municipality of Pieve Santo Stefano.
It is a book created by several hands based on a project by the artist Sara Lovariwhich deals with the topic of the 2030 Agenda.
The 2030 agenda, the action program aimed at promoting the well-being of people, the protection of the planet and prosperity in the years to come, i.e. the set of “goals” to be achieved at a global level, was represented by some young people and girls from Bibbiena’s lower secondary school, in a book that opens “accordion-like” using imagination, fine craftsmanship and recycled materials donated by many local companies.
The work was followed not only by Sara Lovari, but also by Professor Giovanna Dramis who enthusiastically welcomed and carried forward the project proposed by the entrepreneurs.

Giovanni Basagni, president of Prospettiva Casentino, commented: “We have brought many hours of ceramics and working with the hands into middle school classes through two experts such as the artist Sara Lovari and the ceramist Andrea Roggi. We believe that there are three activities to promote in young people: thinking, feeling and doing. We can no longer mortify manual work because it is fundamental for educating human beings and making everyone discover their talent. This year, our project involved 15 people sixth grade classes of all the schools in the valley, between ceramics and book creation, but we intend to strengthen it in the years to come precisely to help young people understand its importance in their lives”.

The book created under Sara’s guidance is a beautiful work of art that helps those who look at it to get an immediate and very exciting idea of the vision that our young people have of the goals of the 2030 agenda, but also of the common responsibilities to save their planet. Each page is an immersive journey on our planet, it is an account of the good and the bad done by human beings and of the strategies to bring the community to participate in the change. Everything was made with recycled materials supplied by many companies in the Casentino area and with truly refined craftsmanship which highlights the work carried out by these small budding artists in their attempt to rediscover even themselves.

Those interested will be able to admire the work created by the boys and girls of the first middle schools of Bibbiena, at Palazzo Pretorio in Pieve Santo Stefano from 30 April to 30 May 2024.
The work of art will then be placed permanently at the Giovannini Library in Bibbiena in agreement with the municipal administration.

Basagni concludes: “Thanks go to the managers and teachers who welcomed and valued the course”.
