THE OPPORTUNITY
The contribution is intended for students residing in Lazio, attending compulsory school and upper secondary school (last three years), belonging to economically disadvantaged families. This money is provided to purchase both textbooks (both paper and digital, dictionaries, fiction books, including in foreign languages, recommended by schools) and digital teaching aids including software (programs and operating systems for school use), USB sticks, printers, notebooks and tablets.
THE NUMBERS
In the 2022-2023 school year, the number of applications submitted to the Municipalities of Lazio were 69,967 of which 50,901 for compulsory school students and 19,066 for high school students. The funds disbursed amounted to 11,934,788 euros for a per capita quota of 177 euros for compulsory school students and 153 for high school students. Now the new guidelines for the disbursement of these contributions will have to be prepared and, immediately afterwards, the municipalities of the region will issue municipal notices for the collection of applications.
Last year, the guidelines provided, in short, that to access the subsidy, the ISEE of the student’s family unit should not exceed approximately 15,500 euros per year and that the electronic invoice of the purchases made for get a refund. A measure taken on the recommendation of the Revenue Agency for which the receipt alone is not sufficient to identify the purchased good, which can only be deduced from the invoice.
«REDUCING THE BURDEN ON FAMILIES»
According to the regional councilor for schools, Giuseppe Schiboni: «The right to study is the principle that guarantees access to education and learning for everyone, regardless of their social, economic or cultural status. This right, too often underestimated, underlines the importance of a truly inclusive society which, as institutions, we have the duty to guarantee with interventions like this which also contribute to reducing the burden of the cost of living that weighs on families”.
