today the presentation of Luciana Palla’s book

In the context of the cultural life of Belluno, the Bellunesi nel Mondo Association and the «Cesa de Jan» Cultural Ladin Institute, with the support of the Union Generela di Ladins dla Dolomites and the «Dino Buzzati» Migration Library, are preparing to welcome a new event: the presentation of Luciana Palla’s book entitled «The Ladins between Germans and Italians. A border community. Livinallongo del Col di Lana/Fodom 1918-2023″. The appointment is for today, Friday 19 April, at 5.30 pm in the meeting room of the Bellunesi nel Mondo Association, located in via Cavour 3 in Belluno. The evening promises to be a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the history of the Ladin community, a reality often overlooked but rich in facets and profound meanings.

Among the speakers who will speak at the presentation: Roland Verra, renowned expert on issues related to the Ladin world, supported by the author of the book, Luciana Palla, whose historical research offers a perspective rich in detail and analysis. To complete the picture, Oscar De Bona, former president of the Province of Belluno, will intervene. Giulia Tasser moderated the meeting. Luciana Palla’s book represents a fundamental stage in the journey of understanding Ladin history and identity. Through an in-depth and rigorous analysis, the author guides us through the events of the small Ladin community of Livinallongo del Col di Lana/Fodom, forced to deal with the complexity of national borders and the need to define its own identity within the new Italian state. From a past marked by unsuccessful attempts at self-definition, to the contemporary challenges linked to the recognition and valorization of Ladin identity, the book offers an in-depth and detailed look at the historical and political events that have shaped the destiny of this community.

Today the “Ladin question” continues to be at the center of public debate, arousing passions and even controversies. The book of
Luciana Palla therefore presents herself as a contribution for all those who wish to understand the challenges and potential linked to the Ladin identity and for those who seek to trace a path of valorization and rediscovery of cultural and territorial roots.
