Macchiagodena is trying: it will apply for Italian Book Capital 2025
Descriptive text here

Macchiagodena will apply for Italian Book Capital for the year 2025. The resolution dates back some time ago and initially envisaged participation in the related tender from the Ministry of Culture for 2024. Then, due to lack of resources to allocate to the project, the whole thing fell through but the Municipality decided to try again ( updating that same resolution). The village in Alto Molise known for its terrace of books will try again soon, as soon as the Ministry publishes the notice.

“We are working on it, there is already a pool of experts who are developing the dossier”explains the mayor Felice Ciccone, the one who conceived the project (summarized as Bring a book, we’ll give you a holiday) which made the center of Isernino famous throughout Italy and beyond.

Macchiagodena has long been known to be among the Authentic Villages but above all one of the national headquarters of Villages of Readinga tourism network present in 18 Italian regions, and precisely for having activated the initiative for some years Genius Loci by donating stays to those, writers or otherwise, who had brought writings from all over Italy in exchange. He boasts, needless to say, the recognition City that reads. Famous – as mentioned – for the reading terrace and the book house which is located inside the medieval tower, Macchiagodena

With a specific measure, it was therefore decided to try that challenge again. The administration of Macchiagodena has decided to entrust the coordination of the candidacy dossier for Roberto Colella, founder and president of the Borghi della Lettura, teacher and journalist for Il Fatto Quotidiano and Treccani. With him are professor Luna Leoni, professor of Management at the University of Tor Vergata, Unimol professor Angelo Presenza, professor of economics and business management, and also the cultural operator and artistic and organizational director of the ULI (Readers’ Union Italians) Brunella Santoli as well as the writer and journalist Nadia Verdile and the territorial analyst and designer Nicola Dario.

The Italian Capital of the Book was established in recent years (in 2020) and, although it does not have the emphasis of the Italian Capital of Culture (everyone will remember the recent candidacy of Agnone and the hopes placed in this) it is nevertheless an opportunity to become known nationally. “We will throw this stone into the pond. We will try, there will certainly be important cities competing (like Mantua which we read about on the web today, ed.) but we believe in it.” Definitely a first time for Molise, and what a first time! “Macchiagodena will be there, it is important that Molise is there”, concludes the mayor.
