THE EXHIBITION The “fragile contrasts” in the watercolors of Cristina Mollica at Cascina Roma

Watercolor as an expression of an inner need, the art form most similar to our soul, which cannot control everything, exactly as happens when you paint with water and you have the sensation of never having absolute control of the ‘Opera.

It is precisely this characteristic that made the artist Cristina Mollica fall in love with watercolour, presenting the exhibition “Fragili contrasti” from 18 May to 9 June in the exhibition spaces of Cascina Roma in San Donato Milanese, which focuses on the expressive potential of watercolour, a fascinating and contemporary painting technique in capturing the beauty of our world, external and internal.

The exhibition, which presents a critical text by Giovanni Cerri, is a sensorial journey into the “conflicts” that define our existences through the poetic and expressive vitality of watercolour, which leads you not to obsessively seek the precision of detail, but to loosen the brushstroke, to follow the drops of color that fall on the paper until the image of a piece of reality is composed.

Cristina Mollica, graduated in illustration and graphic design at the Ied in Milan, born in San Donato where for ten years she taught drawing and painting at the Civic art school, today resides in Lodi where she holds watercolor art courses in person and online, with a teaching method she herself developed over the years.

At Cascina Roma, more than thirty works – including “Fearless” selected on the occasion of the international exhibition “Fabriano in Acquerello 2024” – reflect the author’s personal reflection on the complexity of life, characterized by the interaction between contrasting elements that belong by defining our existences. Between urban landscapes and natural landscapes, with some digressions into the human figure, the chromatic harmony used to create suggestive atmospheres with free and meditative expression is highlighted, thanks to the fluid and elusive nature of watercolour.

The artist questions the relationship that each of us has with the spaces of our existence. Lights and shadows merge, with the aim not only of celebrating the beauty of creation, but also of exploring the contrasts between the turmoil of city life and the peace of nature.

On the occasion of the exhibition, on Saturday 26 May from 3pm to 5pm at Cascina Roma it will be possible to participate in a free watercolor workshop for up to 10 people (excluding painting materials). Workshop booking: [email protected].
