MASSA – A short but significant ceremony was held yesterday (18 April) at the Apuan hospital in Massa (Massa-Carrara), to present the marble sculpture “You are born, you love, you die”. The work donated by the sculptor and architect from Massa Alessandro Giorgi was positioned in the atrium of the structure. A significant title, that of the work, to represent the feelings that accompany people throughout life.

The artist thanked the director of the Massa hospital Giuliano Biselli for his sensitivity. This work, in fact, would have found a museum location, but Dr. Biselli agreed with the artist on this location, which makes the work available to many people who frequent the structure every day. The result of research linked to universal symbolism, the object depicted is a mattress whose base is the wood used during the processing of the piece of marble used and which collects the pieces of marble discarded during its processing.

Alessandro Giorgi, born in 1939, graduated in architecture in Florence in 1964. He has exhibited his works in various Italian museums. His thoughts, regarding being an artist, start from the birth of the idea which is transformed after a long internal labor into the work which is brought to light, as in a gestation and which continues even after creation in a long and deep reflection. In this case the object is an element of experience modified in daily use: it recalls our dreams and our intimacies.

The bishop of Massa Carrara-Pontremoli Mario Vaccari blessed the work, the structure, the people who need care and all the staff who work there. He also underlined the aspect of care as an important phase in everyone’s life. The prefect of Massa Guido Aprea then recalled that the concept of beauty, as an absolute value, can be applied to every area of existence. The director of the Biselli hospital thanked everyone present and said he was proud to be able to see the hospital more and more beautiful, thanks to art.
