It can be visited in Martiniana Po today, Sunday 14 April until 12pm and then in the afternoon from 4pm to 6pm in the Confraternity of the Disciplined. in Piazza Gauthier, the exhibition “Netu painter of angels” dedicated to the Martinian artist Giovanni “Netu” Borgna by the association of the same name with the patronage of the Municipality of the Po valley.

170 years after his birth, the painter originally from Martiniana Po and a leading figure in the Piedmontese and Ligurian artistic panorama, is honored with an exhibition inaugurated last Sunday 7 April during an event in which Borgna and his art were told about his life.

A collection of works by the master are on display, some original and others in photographic reproductions.

Borgna’s works, mainly frescoes on the walls and vaults of churches, chapels, pylons and homes, offer a fascinating insight into his talent and artistic devotion.

An opportunity to rediscover a great artist

During the inauguration Nadia Barrapresident of the “Giovanni Netu Borgna” association welcomed the many present, including the mayor Valderico Berardothe deputy mayor Bruno Berardo and the parish priest Don Remigio Luciano.

Everyone underlined the importance of enhancing the artistic heritage of Borgna, a figure of primary importance in the Piedmontese and Ligurian artistic panorama.

Davide Decostanzi, an expert scholar of the painter, has explored the figure of Borgna in depth, focusing on his style and his works. Decosatanzi is also the author of a degree thesis in architecture focused on a project to recover the painter’s family tomb.

The day was enriched by a musical moment with Irene Ghione on the transverse flute, Gaia Abaclat on the cello ed Elia Carletto to the harmonium.

A further surprise was the presentation of two original works: a portrait of a man signed by Giovanni Borgna and a portrait of a woman painted by his sister Rosa. The two paintings, recently found, were purchased and given to the association for use thanks to the contribution of a group of entrepreneurs.

But the real gem of the exhibition is certainly the mobile table used by Netu and his sister Rosa to prepare the colours. To this day he still keeps their brushes, palettes, mixing bowls, notebooks and other small objects.

An heirloom of inestimable value that Borgna’s great-granddaughter, Elena Motta, donated to the association.

The family memories and anecdotes, which she told during the event, offered those present a further key to understanding the life and work of Netu Borgna.

The exhibition “Netu painter of angels” can be visited until April 28th, on Saturdays from 4pm to 6pm and on Sundays from 9.30am to 12pm and from 4pm to 6pm.

Free admission.
