Wooden sculptures with chainsaws: artists from four regions at Castell’Art

Success for the second edition of “Castell’Art”, the event sponsored by the Municipality of Castell’arquato and organized by the cultural promotion association “Gens Innominabilis”.

Over the course of two days, five sculptors from different regions of Italy gave new life to cedar trunks from the remains of trees previously cut down because they were dangerous or diseased. The wooden cylinders were worked by the sculptor artists almost exclusively through the use of the chainsaw.

“We start by roughing out the trunk with a chainsaw,” he explained the artist Fabio Pini – we try to get as close as possible to the shape we want to create, then we proceed with the finishing, which is done with other tools. However – continued Fabio Pini – the chainsaw is used for 90% of the creation of the sculpture”.
In this year’s edition, the sculptors Fabio Pini, Enrico Melato, Roberto Gherardi, Francesco Cortesia and Mauro Becchi participated.

The themes for the sculptures were chosen by some of the sponsors of the initiative, namely Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs for the Rossetti Market, the little monkey drinking from a glass of wine for La Caminà and two donkey heads for the Rondanina farmhouse.
Given the success and interest shown by spectators, the association intends to replicate the initiative again next year.
