Next stop Centrale FS, next stop Centrale FS. The appointment during the Art Week (and not only) is at Milan station, for two major initiatives, inside and outside. Outside, the monumental installation The birth of theFrench artist JR, visible in Piazza Duca d’Aosta from 10 April to 1 May, reveals the historical layers of the station, built following the opening of the Sempione Tunnel in 1906, the monumental engineering feat that launched the era of large train journeys from Milan. Through one amazing trompe l’oeilJR superimposes the harsh and chiseled façade of the mountain excavated on the Central Station of Milan, thus projecting it into another dimension, seamlessly intertwining mineral elements in the amalgam of classical Roman architectureeclectic, rationalist, art nouveau and art deco.

As with his installations The wound at Palazzo Strozzi in Florence e Vanishing Point at Palazzo Farnese in Rome, the façade of the station is opened by a gash but, this time, through a technique never used before by the artist: The birth it is in fact the JR’s first sculptural anamorphosiswhich deviates from its typical medium – paper and glue – to print the image directly onto aluminum panels. In addition to facing the facade, these metal elements are scattered around the square, allowing spectators to enter and interact with the work. The result is a surreal architectural fantasy that blurs the boundaries of time and place, creating a link between the grandeur of the station today and its history.

In line with the curatorial approach of Jefferson Hacks of transformation of public spaces, all the billboards and advertising screens of the train station will be connected to create a sort of imaginary landscape animated by images and quotes, where texts and portraits dominate the noise of the station like powerful silent invocations, inspiring the public to dream .
