Thirty years after their passing, Imola will celebrate, on Wednesday 1 May, Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger, who died on the circuit of the Romagna city in that tragic weekend at the beginning of May 1994.

The initiatives in memory of the two drivers are part of the calendar of events renamed “Senna 30 years”, which the municipal administration has developed in collaboration with the Ayrton Senna Institute, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Region Emilia Romagna. On May 1st the initiatives will take place throughout the day: the most touching moment is scheduled for 2.17pm, the time of Senna’s accident at the Tamburello curve, with a minute’s silence.

On the stage, set up in the area near the site of the impact, the Vice-President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, will bring their greetings after placing bouquets of flowers at the site of the accident. the Minister of Foreign Relations of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Mauro Vieira; the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria, Alexander Schallenberg; the mayor of Imola, Marco Panieri; the CEO of Formula One, Stefano Domenicali and the president of Formula Imola, Gian Carlo Minardi. At the end, the delegation of the authorities will move to the Villeneuve curve, the scene of Ratzenberger’s accident, where bouquets of flowers will be laid.
In the afternoon the documentary on Ratzenberger will be screened in the Media Center of the Autodromo, followed by a moment dedicated to Senna with the presentation of the book by journalist Franco Nugnes entitled ‘Senna. The Truths’, In the evening, at 9pm, the show “Fresi tells Senna” will be staged at the Ebe Stignani municipal theatre, a monologue on the life of Ayrton Senna told by Stefano Fresi. The text is taken from the book ‘Perdere Senna’ by the director and writer Giorgio J. Squarcia. On stage Fresi will be accompanied by a singer and a five-piece band.
