Surface metro to connect Lucca to Pisa and Livorno. The Legambiente club of Lucca approves the path supported by Municipality of Lucca and in particular by the mayor Mario Pardini.
“The mayor of Lucca – observes Legambiente, relaunching statements that appeared in the Livorno press – has shared and identified the creation of a surface metro in the vast area of the coast between Lucca Pisa and Livorno as the tool to focus on a mobility system sustainable, modern and effective. With this, it made its own the proposal presented by this association in the Municipal Council on 6 May 2019, and subsequently implemented in the 2022-2027 programmatic lines of the Authority’s mandate, in which a different idea of mobility was promoted in the vast area of the Coast, to make the area where a third of Tuscan citizens live and work accessible with a tramway, promoting their socio-economic progress”.
“This project – continues Legambiente – is a significant part of our alternative proposals to the system of road axes, now reduced to just the north-south axis, the implementation of which ‘solo’ determines the need to ascertain the technical/economic/financial sustainability of the first section functional with respect to the general objectives of the work as a whole. For example, the only first functional excerpt, as well as carrying out a prolonged construction site in the area, will not fulfill the objective of ‘freeing heavy vehicle traffic from the ring road’, and in the absence of adequate forecasts and effective solutions in the recently approved operational plan, will create a connection between through traffic and neighborhoods already congested by existing traffic, places south of the city. In hoping that the municipal administration will make public its observations presented at the Anas table, we hope that it will continue along the path undertaken for the concrete promotion of the vast area tram systemmaking it complete with the necessary connections with the territories not yet involved, such as the Municipalities of Piana Lucchese, Mediavalle and Garfagnana, fulfilling the mandatory duties of political, economic and social solidarity, with the aim of solving the problems and not moving them elsewhere” .
