Spring at the museum 2024: the initiatives of the Civic Museums next weekend

The initiatives continue over the weekend between 19 and 21 April Pwill remain in the museumcurated by the Civic Museums of Pistoia.

In the context of Revox Public Programsa new in-depth look at the exhibition Revox by Federico Tiezzi. From Portraits of the End of the Millennium (1986) to Vasari. The Lives (2021-2023)underway at Palazzo Fabroni, is on the program Friday 19 Aprilat 5pm, in the Nigro room on the first floor of the Museum of the Twentieth Century and Contemporary Art of Palazzo Fabroni, via Sant’Andrea 18. The art historian Jacopo Stoppaprofessor of History of Modern Art at the University of Milan, delves into “Michelangelo’s Pietà Rondanini”, the work visible in the background of the video of the Mater strangosciàs exhibited in an evocative installation on the first floor of Palazzo Fabroni, and which acts as a link between the two portrait sections of the exhibition.

The Rondanini Pietà is the sculpture on which Michelangelo (1475-1564), almost ninety years old, worked a few days before his death. The conference addresses the historical and iconographic precedents of a masterpiece that took a long time to become such in common perception. Entrance to the meeting is free while available seats are filled.

Saturday 20 Aprilat 11, it is possible visit the Fernando Melani home-studio (corso Gramsci 159), considered one of the most original realities of the Italian museum context, an intense and evocative journey along the traces of the thought of the Pistoia artist. Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st April from 3pm to 6pm, the students of the ITSC Pacini linguistic high school, participating in the “Ambassadors of Art” project, are available to visitors of the Civic Museum of Ancient Art in the Palazzo Comunale, of the Spedale del Ceppo Museum and of the Museum of the Twentieth Century and the Contemporary of Palazzo Fabroni for guided tours, also in foreign languages, of the museum locations and collections. Participation in the guided tours is free, the only cost is the entrance ticket to the museum.

Sunday 21 April it will also be possible to participate in one free guided tour of the Civic Museum of Ancient Art. This is the final visit of the “Domenicapiù” initiative, promoted and implemented by the Pistoia Museum System – SIMUP with the contribution of the Tuscany Region, 2023 museum systems call, and the collaboration of the Pistoia Tourism Guide Center: a calendar of free Sunday visits for discover the characters, stories, art and traditions told by the museums that are part of the Museum System. The program for Sunday 21st is concentrated on the figure of Niccolò Puccini, philanthropist, intellectual and extraordinary patron who was able, thanks to his thoughts, friendships and innovative ideas, to profoundly influence the culture of nineteenth-century Pistoia. The visit begins with the romantic park of the Villa di Scornio and then continues to the Civic Museum of ancient art in the Palazzo Comunale in Pistoia, where the works of art from the Puccini collection are kept: from family portraits to the Flemish Renaissance polyptych to the large romantic canvases commissioned by Niccolò.

The shuttle bus leaves at 2.40pm from Montecatini Terme station, in Piazzale Italia, and the return is scheduled for 6pm. The visit, including the return shuttle bus service, is free (only entrance to the museum costs ).
