Incredible media attention linked to Luca Guadagnino’s new film: «Challengers». Thanks to the cast, of course, but also to the looks of the protagonists, one among all: Zendaya. The red carpets linked to the presentation of the film were a constant reminder of the world of tennis, the universe in which the film’s plot is set, in the looks chosen by the actress. On the occasion of one of the most recent events she chose a special item: a gray T-shirt characterized by the writing in dark block letters: “I Told Ya”, I told you so. A quote t-shirt from the film: the character of the former champion and then trainer Tashi, played by the actress, wears it on set.
However, Zendaya was not the only one to wear it in reality and not just in cinematic fiction. Before her, the actor Josh O’Connor, Zendaya’s colleague in Guadagnino’s film and one of the protagonists of the series The Crown, decided to have her writing printed on a white tuxedo shirt. It’s still. On the film’s costume designer Jonathan Anderson, the first to show off the T-shirt during the film’s premiere in Rome.
Jonathan Anderson, designer at the creative helm of Loewe, was named by «Time» magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2024. Guadagnino had expressed a series of considerations about him about his personality during an interview: « What I love about Jonathan Anderson is that he is grounded and has an innate understanding of how fashion and human behavior are intertwined.”
What not everyone knows, however, is that it was John F. Kennedy Jr., the youngest son of American President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, who wore the T-shirt back in the 1990s. John John has been immortalized several times in the park wearing the t-shirt while exercising or playing frisbee with his dog. Even more special for him given the reference to his father’s 1961 election campaign, whose slogan was: “I Told You So”.
