The Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico has undergone a attack And “struggle between life and death”. As the government itself reports SlovakiaFico is in life threatening and is in the operating room in the hospital Banská Bystricawhere it arrived in helicopter rescue because transportation to Bratislava would have taken too long due to the need for a urgent intervention.
The next few hours “they will be decisive”as the prime minister’s staff explained on his Facebook profile shortly before the government explained that the Slovak leader was “fighting between life and death” due to injuries to his chest and to theabdomen. According to an initial reconstruction, Fico had just completed a government meeting and was preparing to leave again. After leaving the building, he approached the barriers where dozens of people were. “Robo, come here!” the attacker allegedly shouted before opening fire on the prime minister with a pistolas reported by the website of the Slovak newspaper Pravda. At the moment, the identity of the 71-year-old who was handed over to the hospital is not yet known police after being immobilized by security men of the prime minister.
The President of Slovakia, Zuzana Caputová, condemned the “brutal” attack: “I am shocked. I wish Robert Fico a lot of strength in this critical moment to recover from the attack.” Even the leader of the opposition party Progressive Slovakia, Michal Šimechkahe said he was “shocked and upset from the attack” on the prime minister, condemning “unequivocally and firmly any type of violence”. Closeness also from Europe, with the President of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, which “strongly condemns the cowardly attack on Prime Minister Robert Fico. Such acts of violence have no place in our society and undermine it democracy, our most precious common good. My thoughts turn to Prime Minister Fico and his family.”
The Prime Minister speaks of “deep dismay”. Giorgia Meloni defining a “cowardly attack” the one suffered by Fico: “Also on behalf of the Italian government – he adds – I would like to express the firmest opinion condemnation of every form of violence and attack on the cardinal principles of democracy and freedom”. “I was deeply shocked by the heinous attack against my friend, Prime Minister Robert Fico. Let’s pray for his health and a quick recovery! God bless him and his country,” he wrote on X Viktor Orban.
