Macaroni, the stray cat who became the “purring manager” of an English school

Finding a home and a job at the same time is not for everyone. Even more so if you are a stray cat. But the charm of Macaroni Cheese conquered everyone and in a short time he made a super career, becoming the Purrformance manager (a sort of “purr manager”) of a school in Salisbury, England. This kitten was adopted when he was just eight weeks old: he had climbed a tree alone and couldn’t get down from there. And as he grew up, his curiosity to explore the outside world became more and more evident. Therefore, his human self decided to take him with her to the school where he works, immediately becoming its mascot.

Going to school has become a daily routine for the feline, who now wanders around the classrooms and meeting rooms nonchalantly, certain that he will receive the attention and cuddles he so desires. His presence had a positive impact on both students and employees of the institution, but since Macaroni could not be regularly enrolled as a student, he was given a role of responsibility, highlighting his importance in the school community. A popularity that, thanks to social media, has transcended the confines of school, where the tabby spends his days and then returns home with his human.

Everyone was scared when, in November 2023, Macaroni disappeared for a few days. The entire community mobilized to look for him: in the end he returned home alone, but this bad experience highlighted the special bond that Macaroni has with everyone who knows him, and was proof of how much they care about him and how his presence is important at school.

“He spends his days going around the classrooms, to see that everything goes smoothly – says his human -. It is more than normal to find him on someone’s lap or somewhere taking a nap”. Macaroni sleeps on books, computer keyboards and even sports equipment. He doesn’t have any problems precisely because he feels at ease. School has become his second home. And since the tabby is so much a part of the Salibury school, the board of directors also decided to hang a photo of him on the wall of fame, while he poses with his standard yellow tie with purple stripes.
