Libero was defined by Lilli Gruber as a “war-mongering” newspaper. “You are very harsh with pro-Palestinian students in Italian universities. All public discourse is steeped in the politics of war. Aren’t you also afraid that there’s no turning back?”: this is how the host of Otto e mezzo asked Mario Sechi , director of the newspaper in question, to take part in the discussion launched on the table during the last episode. “We will go back when the wars end. I would like to remind you that we are on three fronts that have a common matrix. Ukraine, Gaza and the Red Sea. Let’s not forget that. Let’s talk about world trade”, replied the journalist, recalling the everyone’s attention on the tensions triggered by the sudden attacks by the Houthi rebels on the boats.

“When tensions decrease, then we will go back,” Sechi reiterated. Gruber urged him: “Wars don’t end like this. We will have to work to ensure that conflicts end.” “Wars usually end with the defeat of one of the parties. Full or partial. They can end with a negotiation between those who fight, not between others. Peace is always made with the enemy and in any case there are always winners and losers. They are established compensation and future borders”: these are the scenarios exposed by the director of Libero. The other theme to take into consideration, then, concerns Ukraine above all: “Tiredness, wars end due to tiredness. There will always be a negotiation, a problem. The war in Gaza is different from the others. Israel currently supports war. It’s a given,” he explained. The presenter interrupted him: “It’s not true. A Jerusalem Post poll said that Israelis are tired.” “I talk about politics. There is support for the war. The issue is when Israel will feel it is time to end it”, added the journalist.
