The 2026 of Ma Acqua S.Bernardo Cuneo begins with one more spiker: after the rumors of the last few days, on December 30th the official signing of the twenty-one-year-old transalpine Alexandre Strehlau, coming from Tours, arrived.
Strehlau, 199 centimeters tall, originally from Nice, son of an artist – his father Christian, a former centre-back, boasts spending time in Milan, Loreto and Treviso -, last spring he was elected MVP in the match which on 17 May – the day in which Cuneo won the Serie A2 Super Cup – gave Tours their tenth French champion title. The culmination of a growing season which earned him entry into coach Andrea Giani’s Les Bleus.
After an uphill start to the year, the new blue and white number 10, gifted with great athleticism and physicality, has highlighted himself several times in the last month, both in the Champions League and in the championship – he won the MVP title in Tours’ victory over Arago de Sète on Sunday 21st.
There is no shortage of comparisons with a certain Earvin Ngapeth: both hammers, after taking their first steps as opposites, sons of art, took flight in Tours – Strehlau arrived there in 2023 after the seasons between Pôle Espoir Wattignies and Harnes and the one in Tourcoing Lille Métropole – and chose Cuneo for their first time abroad.
To reach his compatriot Nathan Feral, Strehlau – who signed until June 2027 – asserted a contractual clause that allowed him to free himself in the event of a call from a Super League club. Cuneo – who, due to the release of the Hungarian Roland Gergye, Strehlau’s former teammate, has had the short end of the stick so far in the squad – looked for him, and Strehlau didn’t hesitate.
For the president’s company Gabriele Costamagna an important coup both for the closer current affairs – Strehlau could be available as a coach Matteo Battocchio already on Saturday in the away match against Piacenza – both in perspective. «He is a very strong player from a physical point of view and has some international experience thanks to the Champions League. We discussed it for a long time: he can’t wait to compete in the Italian championship”, says Feral.
